CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY PLAN

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is essential for the continued sustainability of our business objectives as this demonstrates our dedication to the wellbeing of the communities we operate within and enables us to reach our full potential. Our CSR plan consists of the following elements and can be adapted to suit the specific needs of the communities we operate:

  1. Community Engagement: ABAI will adopt a proactive approach by polling members of the communities we operate using a Pre-Construction Needs Analysis Template to obtain feedback about their needs and concerns. With the diverse nature of the projects we get involved with, we believe it’s best to know what impact locals anticipate and if reasonable and feasible, take steps to address these issues. Example of actions to undertake may include arranging town hall meetings during various stages of the project to get feedback and reassure locals that the project will bring positive change to their community.

  1. Local Employment Opportunities: ABAI will prioritize hiring from its host communities to boost the local economy. This we believe would increase the acceptance of our projects within the community as well as help improve the standards of living. In addition, we would prioritize capacity building by providing essential training and skills development programs for local workers.

  1. Environmental Sustainability: We will strive to reduce the project’s negative impact on the environment in several ways. This could involve implementing proper waste management systems or investing in renewable energy for the site’s power needs. An Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) would be carried out to ensure that all our projects comply with relevant local laws and regulations on the environment.

  1. Supporting Local Businesses: Where possible, we will engage local suppliers and contractors to stimulate the local economy. This could involve sourcing construction materials from local businesses or promoting space in the shopping mall for local entrepreneurs.

  1. Health and Safety Commitments: ABAI will ensure that all security standards and health and safety regulations are adhered to, both during and after construction. We will also consider providing onsite health and safety training for all workers. Given the scale of our projects, we are committed in ensuring that we put a plan in place for medical emergencies, as well as setting up basic health facilities to cater for employees and residents.

  1. Infrastructure Development: ABAI will endeavour to allow part of our project public facilities – such as the park, public convenience, and water works – free of charge or at minimal cost to be inclusive of all community members, regardless of their income levels.

  1. Educational Initiatives: ABAI will partner with local schools and colleges to offer students internships, providing them with a platform to gain practical experience. ABAI would also offer scholarships to host community dependents in primary and tertiary institutions.

  1. Periodic Review and Reporting of CSR Initiatives: Regular auditing of CSR initiatives is essential to assess their impact and relevance. Results would be publicly reported to build trust with stakeholders and local communities.

Culturally Relevant Outreaches: ABAI will remain visible in the community as a stakeholder and member of the host community. We will celebrate with the traditional rulers and locals at state accredited festivals, sporting events, coronations or anniversaries and retain community liaison officers who are from the community to maintain these critical relationships with all cadres of the society. Our sustainability initiatives will not only provide value to the society, but also enhance the reputation and acceptance of our projects in the community.
